Frederick F. Buechel, Jr. MD Dr. Frederick Buechel Jr. MD is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and is Joint Replacement Fellowship Trained from The University of Pennsylvania. As the Director of the Robotic Joint Replacement Center at Physicians Regional Medical Center, Dr. Frederick Buechel, Jr. specializes in and performs Makoplasty® Outpatient Robotic Partial Knee Replacement, Total Knee Replacement, Total Hip Replacement, and Knee Arthroscopy.  Dr. Buechel, Jr. has been in private practice in Naples, Florida since 2001. He completed his Fellowship in Adult Total Joint Reconstruction at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with Robert Booth, MD and David Nazarian, MD.  Dr. Buechel, Jr. also trained under Dr. Buechel Sr. MD who is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Buechel, Jr. MD is the Vice Chairman of Surgery at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples, Florida.  He was the past Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at the NCH Healthcare System from 2007-2010, and he was the NCH 2009 COMPASS Award recipient.  Dr. Buechel, Jr. is an expert in Makoplasty® surgery & internationally one of the most experienced Makoplasty® Robotic Knee Surgeons, having performed over 500 Outpatient Robotic Makoplasty® Knee resurfacings since he began the program in Southwest Florida in 2009. Dr. Buechel performs all of his procedures himself from start to finish!  Dr. Buechel, Jr. MD just returned from teaching and surgery for a month in Asia, where he performed the first Makoplasty® Knee Procedures with surgeons in Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. Makoplasty® Robotic Arm Assisted Knee Surgery is the most consistently, reproducible, precision joint replacement installation system available that allows certified surgeons to optimize knee and hip implant placement, enhancing implant function and longevity.  Dr. Buechel, Jr. has developed the Mini-Makoplasty® Technique that allows all of his patients to return home the same day.  A truly minimally invasive technique & process that provides rapid pain relief with return to an active lifestyle within weeks, for most patients. Dr. Buechel’s exposures are 2-3 inches, no muscles are cut, no tourniquets are used, and blood loss is minimal requiring no transfusions. Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) stem cell application is used to enhance the healing process during the closure.  Skin adhesive (instead of staples) is used to hold the skin edges together and reduce the risk of external contamination while allowing patients to shower the next day.  Patients are walking the same day. Most are off prescription pain meds within a week and feel better than before surgery in just 3-4 weeks. A short course of rehabilitation is recommended, with most requiring less than 4 weeks before returning to a regular exercise programs.  Dr. Buechel’s comprehensive Mini-Makoplasty Program is designed to enhance patient outcomes, allowing patients the greatest chance of success with the least risk of complications.
